CEFPI FAQs

Q: How do I get in to the 'members only' section of the Web site?
A: Once you have entered www.cefpi.org look for the RED "Members Login" button, which is accessible on the homepage of the Web site. Once you have clicked on this button you will be taken to a login page which requires you to enter your membership number and your password. You will only have to enter this once during any browser session.

Q: Where do I find my member ID and password?
A: Enclosed in your new member packet. You will find a welcome letter that includes your new membership number, your password, your demographic information for editing, and your membership expiration date. Please record the ID and password on your membership card and/or rolodex card attached to this folder for future reference. If you misplace your number, simply contact our membership department at contact@cefpi.org.

Q: What if I move or change jobs?
A: To register your new contact information, go to the "Submit Address Change" form that is linked to the members only site on the CEFPI web site, and is also available on each of the region home pages. You may also fax your information to the membership department at 480.391.0940.

Q: How do I contact other members?
A: A membership directory will be mailed to you at the beginning of each calendar year. The directory contains all of the member names, addresses, phones, and email addresses. An electronic version is posted on the Members Only Web site as well. CEFPI also maintains an online member directory on the Web site; the online directory always contains the most current information but is limited to phone and email contacts only.

Q: How do I find out about local events and meetings?
A: The regions and chapters are instructed to post news and event information to their corresponding Web pages. CEFPI HQ also enters events into the Council-wide calendar that is linked to the Web site home page. Newsletters and monthly electronic E-Newsletters are sent from international as well as many of the regions and chapters themselves. All members are included in these mailing lists. CEFPI has also instituted a bulk mail program that all of our groups may utilize and is an easy way to notify members about CEFPI deadlines, due dates, meetings, and important notices. By using this type of notification system, the Council is able to save valuable time and money for projects that better serve the membership. As a group we try to minimize the emails we send out and will identify the topic in the subject line as clearly as we can.

Q: What if I do not want mailings or email notifications?
A: CEFPI sends regular newsletters, E-news, IssueTrak publications, and EFP Journal subscriptions to all of its members. We also do mailings to inform you of upcoming events, speaking opportunities, new publications, and elections. You may choose to opt out of any or all of these mailings and/or bulk emails. Please send WRITTEN request to membership department via fax or email and allow 6 weeks for the change to be reflected in the mailings you receive.

Q: How do I become more involved?
A: The first step in becoming an "involved" member of the Council is to volunteer with your local chapter or region board. You have the opportunity to participate on a conference committee; sponsor or exhibit at an upcoming event; contribute to newsletters or other publications; or apply to be a presenter at a topical meeting or annual conference. Review your region's by-laws to find out what process and timeline is used for the election of officers on that particular board. All by-laws are posted to the Web site.

Q: How do I find CEFPI facility resources?
A: CEFPI headquarters staff is always available to answer your questions and direct you to various resources or other individuals who may be of assistance to you. The CEFPI website offers a wealth of information and members can access abstracts of current and past journal articles. Additionally, the Council maintains a well-stocked library at the headquarters offices.

Q: How do I order publications?
A: All CEFPI publications are listed on the website and may be ordered directly online. Should you have further questions, please contact CEFPI headquarters at 480.391.0840 or contact@cefpi.org.

Q: Can I present at CEFPI events?
A: CEFPI encourages all members to apply for speaking positions for the annual international conference, regional conferences and other workshops and symposiums. To that end, the Council has established a Speaker Database, http://speakers.cefpi.org, allowing you to register as a presenter or author; compile a "database" of your presentations; submit articles on educational facility issues; and search for a list of presentations available for your conference or workshop.

Q: How do I register for conferences?
A: Current CEFPI conference information and registration is always available online. For a complete list, visit http://shop.cefpi.org.

Q: How do I submit articles for the EFP Journal?
A: The EFP - Educational Facility Planner is published quarterly. To submit your articles for consideration, simply go to the Speaker Database on the CEFPI web site. Articles should have relevance to education facilities issues and should be informative and well-researched. Articles should not promote personal products or services. Writer's guidelines for manuscript preparation and the editorial calendar appear on the web site. Manuscripts and graphics should be submitted electronically through our Speakers Database. Although not a peer-reviewed journal The EFP is a well respected and often cited resource.

Q: How do I get my firm listed in the CD Online?
A: CEFPI members have the opportunity to be included in the Consultants Directory online, which currently receives 3000 inquiries per month. You may sign-up on line annually, with your membership ID number and a credit card payment. Listings include your offices, categories, regions, personal statement as well as your most recent projects and your areas of specialization and distinction. Following your initial sign-up, you may edit your listing online at any time throughout the year.

Q: How can I participate in School Building Week?
A: CEFPI's annual School Building Week, held in collaboration with more than 40 federal agencies, national associations and firms, focuses on educating the public and policymakers on high performing, healthy, safe and sustainable school buildings and their connection to learning and student success. A complete guide to participating in School Building Week is available online at http://sbw.cefpi.org. In addition to ideas for commemorating the week, there are pertinent articles, teacher resources, facility facts and guidelines on the site.
