Chapter Mission
The commitment of the professional membership has been the key to the success of CEFPI. We must now build on this tradition by increasing our membership to include sectors now under-represented within the organization. Increasing membership from the communities we serve to include minorities and urban school personnel.

SUMMER Symposium
The Bloedel Reserve
Bainbridge Island, WA

Outdoor Learning - Elements, Attributes & Curriculum: A One Day Symposium exploring the challenges and opportunities to create effective outdoor learning environments. The symposium will be led by a panel of experts from OSPI, educators from Tacoma's SAMI School the Mercer Island School district and independent environmental consultants.

As the state implements the Washington State Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) all districts will need to address new modalities of learning. One opportunity will be to move learning out of the classroom and into the landscape.

This symposium will begin with a core presentation of the NGSS by Gilda Wheeler (Program Supervisor, Sustainability and Science - OSPI) and Fred Rundle (Director of Learning Services - Mercer Island SD). Small groups will be lead on an extended investigation of the Reserve, exploring opportunities and applications of the NGSS. Lunch will be provided. The afternoon will allow for personal investigation and reflection on the NGSS in the landscape culminating in a group discussion and distillation of ideas at the historic main residence.
