Chapter/Region Mission
The commitment of the professional membership has been the key to the success of CEFPI. We must now build on this tradition by increasing our membership to include sectors now under-represented within the organization. Increasing membership from the communities we serve to include minorities and urban school personnel.

The South Carolina Chapter held another successful conference on February 6-7, 2009 at the historic Francis Marion Hotel in downtown Charleston. The theme for our 4th annual conference was "Building Schools, Building Communities". Despite the current economic downturn and school district travel restrictions, attendance was only slightly off with approximately 90 participants representing a diverse mix of school district personnel, architects, construction manager, contractors and vendors.
A Trade Show reception was held on Friday night with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. Saturday's events began with Keynote Speaker Alex James, AIA, Director, Office of School Facilities presenting on "How Colorado Does It". Ms. Gaye M. Douglas of Florence County School District 5 presented on "A Health Campus on Campus" Next, Dr. Zona W. Jefferson, Ph.D., Superintendent, Sumter School District 17 presented "Crosswell Park Early Childhood Center". CEFPI-SC Design Awards were given out during lunch with the vendors. Finally, Mr. Charlie Raubacher, Sr. Vice-President, Parsons Brinkerhoff presented on "Project Delivery Methods – Strengths and Weaknesses from an Owner's Perspective".
We are most thankful to the trade show vendors and corporate sponsors who continue to make this event a success.
