CEFP "Certified Educational Facility Planner"
Begin Your Path to Earning the CEFP Designation Today!
What is the CEFP?
The Certified Educational Facility Planner (CEFP) designation is designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance, and identify those in the educational environment industry who demonstrate the knowledge essential to the practice of educational facility planning. The CEFP program stands as a mark of excellence and has been developed to reflect the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a competent educational facilities planner.
About the CEFP Commission
CEFPI has designated the establishment of an independent commission to create, set policy for, and govern the CEFP program. This commission will serve at the pleasure of the CEFPI Board of Directors, but will have authority and responsibility for the CEFP program and have absolute independence from the CEFPI Board of Directors in the instances of program policy, bestowment of the designation, requirements and qualifications of the program, and all appeals made by candidates seeking the designation.
The CEFP Commission shall consist of a representative of each geographical region of CEFPI and up to three subject matter experts that are designated by the Commission to serve. The number of Commissioners shall always be an even number and the Chair of the Commission shall be appointed by the CEFPI Board of Directors, and shall serve with no vote on matters before the Commission except in the case of a tie. The chair shall be a current member of the CEFPI Board of Directors. He/she must abstain from all votes that involve dissolution of the Commission before the Board of Directors, but may vote on other matters that concern the Commission. All members of the Commission shall be members of CEFPI in good standing, and hold the designation of CEFP.

Who should become a CEFP?
The CEFP program is geared towards educational facility planning practitioners, who have a vested interest in advancing their profession and the industry.
What are the benefits?
Earning the CEFP credential is the hallmark of a committed educational facility planner. It helps drive professional self-confidence, opens doors, creates connections, and offers widespread value and recognition for candidates.
How can I obtain the CEFP?
Earning and maintaining the CEFP is a three-part process. Candidates must first meet eligibility requirements and submit an application. The next step is to sit for, and pass the CEFP exam. Once a candidate has earned the credential they must maintain it by fulfilling certification renewal requirements every three years, as well as maintain minimum continuing education units each year. If you currently hold the designation of REFP (Recognized Educational Facility Planner), you are automatically eligible to sit for an abbreviated CEFP exam upon completing the application process.
How am I eligible for the CEFP?
A combination of formal education, professional experience, and portfolio of your work, will determine your eligibility. To find out the specific requirements, click here.
What are the fees?
There will be a schedule of fees to apply for the program as well as a recertification and maintenance fee payable each year. When the recertification is due, no additional fee will be required as long as the yearly fee is current. Click here to view the fee schedule for the 2013 class of CEFP candidates.
How do I get started?
To apply for eligibility for the CEFP exam and designation, complete the CEFP application.
When can I test? The 2014 Schedule
Applicants will follow the same procedures plus coordinate their own proctor, location, and day/time for the test. CEFP administrator will coordinate the testing logistics with the proctor. The test must be taken during the identified time frame. The CEFP administrator may not be employed at the same firm/district/agency as the candidate.
