2002 Impact on Learning Awards School Planning & Management and the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI) have developed the Impact on Learning Awards to recognize educational facilities that have solved real-world problems with design, engineering and technology solutions. Unlike other competitions that judge entire buildings, the Impact on Learning Awards focus on specific solutions to design challenges: a cafeteria design, for instance, that reduces noise levels; a commons area that is both safe and inviting; a building designed to save energy and protect the environment; furniture and equipment that enhances teaching; or classrooms designed to accommodate technology. Projects will be judged on the following criteria: Does the solution enhance student learning? Does the solution reflect the challenge presented? Is there an emphasis on functionality? Does the solution provide flexibility to accommodate future educational programs? Our judges reserve the right not to award certificates of excellence in every category. The winning schools will be profiled in the October issue of SP&M and recognized at the Awards Luncheon at the annual CEFPI Conference in Phoenix. As an added bonus, display boards of all winning projects will be exhibited at the CEFPI 79th Annual International Conference, at NSBAs fall Technology + Learning Conference, and on the SP&M website.
