Why did you join CEFPI?
Milton Miller invited me to a Southern Region Conference as a presenter. While in attendance, I saw people from all areas of interest focused on one area of concern.

What is the major benefit you have gained from being a CEFPI member?
I have developed an international network to help avoid problems when possible and to help solve problems when they were unavoidable.

What do you like most about what you do?
In my current job, I am able to concentrate on bringing a true educational perspective to a construction project.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
The successful completion of over $500M of construction projects in three school districts.

Describe the biggest asset you bring to your job:
I have been involved in constructing school buildings since 1975. I now have the experience and time to concentrate on the construction of educational facilities.

What is your second choice as an occupation and why?
I am currently involved in my "second" first choice of occupations.

Tell us about the most motivating meeting you have attended:
The most motivating meeting I have attended is the beginning meeting of a project when architects, teachers and students begin the planning process for a new school building.

What is your greatest personal accomplishment?
Preparing my children to cope with whatever comes their way in life.

Family
Wife-Dotty; Son-Jay Rambo; Daughter-Angela Cunningham

Favorite thing to do on your day off:
Go camping with my family.

If you could have any person (alive or dead) to your home for dinner, who would it be? Why? What would you talk about?
I would have Albert Einstein for dinner to discuss any topic except physics. No matter what the topic he would see it from a different perspective and I would not understand anything he explained about physics.

Do you have a favorite quote? What is it?
"There is no crash course for experience."

Why did you join CEFPI?
To further my professional knowledge and to network with other professionals.

What is the major benefit you have gained from being a CEFPI member?
One of the main benefits is being able to stay current on design trends that impact education.

What do you like most about what you do?
It would probably be working with so many diverse groups. You constantly deal with Architects, Engineers, and building principals/administrators. It is a challenge to gauge the varying needs of the different types of professionals, and develop an end product that is worthwhile for the children we educate.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
In 1992, I was selected as the only recipient in the State of Texas to receive the Energy Efficiency Commendation from Governor Ann Richards.

Describe the biggest asset you bring to your job:
My diverse background. My education is in architectural studies from the University of Illinois. My entire professional career has been in the educational arena. Both of these, coupled with extensive experience in facilities maintenance and energy management, have provided me with the knowledge base to be useful in my profession.

What is your second choice as an occupation and why?
I would like to be the Owner of a Professional Sports Team. It would be quite challenging to deal with the intricacies of professional athletes, knowing that it is a multi-billion dollar industry that has substantial economic impact on large, metropolitan areas.

Tell us about the most motivating meeting you have attended:
A few years ago, I attended a weekend conference pertaining to President's training for a Rotary Club (I was preparing to serve as President of the Irving Sunrise Rotary Club). One of the luncheon speakers was Grant Teaff, formerly the football coach and athletic director at Baylor University. He provided a motivational speech on how to be a good person, and how to be a quality representative for your community. It was one of the most mind-capturing speeches I have ever heard.

What is your greatest personal accomplishment?
I would have to say being able to provide a solid foundation for my family, something I was not as fortunate to have when I was a child.

Complete this sentence..."I wish I knew how to..."
fly an airplane. I would love to be a pilot.

Family:
Stacy (wife) married 19 years; Mallory (daughter) 14 years old; Mitch (son) 11 years old.

Favorite thing to do on your day off:
Play golf; work in the yard.

If you could have any person (alive or dead) to your home for dinner, who would it be? Why? What would you talk about?
Ronald Reagan. He has been an actor, a governor, and Leader of the Free World. We would talk about his life, and the challenges he faced throughout his various careers.

Best book you have read:
"7 Habits of Highly Effective People", by Stephen R. Covey.

Do you have a favorite quote? What is it?
I don't know where the quote originated, but it is one I think of often. "It is amazing what can be accomplished when you are not concerned with who receives credit for it."

Any other comment you would like to make?
My professional career has now spanned over 22 years, with all of that being in education. I had no idea that I would do this with my life, but I truly believe it was destiny. It is one of the most self-gratifying professions, since the results of our labor provide a strong foundation for the education of children, the future of this country.
